Dave Distel has over twenty-four years experience focused in directing operating profit and cash flow improvement, crisis management and turnaround consulting, debt restructuring and refinancing, raising equity capital, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation support. Since joining O’Keefe & Associates in the summer of 2005, Mr. Distel has opened the Grand Rapids office for the firm, has been court appointed as a Chief Liquidation Officer in a Chapter 11 proceeding, financial advisor to several unsecured creditor committees in Chapter 11 proceedings and litigation matters, court appointed as a receiver of an operating company outside bankruptcy, bank appointed financial consultant to several distressed businesses, financial advisor to debtors seeking debt restructure or profit enhancement opportunities, litigation support in investigating fraud in a forensic accounting capacity, and investigated insolvency, fraudulent conveyance, and preference transactions in bankruptcy.
Prior to joining O’Keefe & Associates, Mr. Distel’s career background includes seven years of Big Four public accounting experience as an auditor in New York and Detroit with Deloitte & Touche, three years of consulting experience in Deloitte & Touche’s Merger, Acquisition & Restructuring and Litigation Support practices in New York, and twelve years in senior financial and operational roles including Controller, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Distel possesses significant international and broad industry experience including manufacturing/automotive, construction/real estate, retail, information management/media, technology/software, financial services, and business services/outsourcing.
Mr. Distel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Michigan State University, recently passed the Certified Turnaround Professional Exam (application pending), and is licensed in the States of Michigan and New York as a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Distel is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, founded the West Michigan Chapter, and was elected by his peers to serve as President. He is also a member of American Bankruptcy Institute, Association for Corporate Growth, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
